We are approaching a Presidential election. Because of that, I am hearing more and more political talk from friends, family and strangers. What do I hear most? I hear about all the stuff that is happening that is “bad.” Did you know that so and so has this plan for the future? Did you hear this lie? OMG did you see the debate?! I totally get it and I sometimes fall into the complain trap, too, but then I remember that the the political landscape is a summary of the beliefs and actions of the people of this country.

Voting, not voting, engaging with local politics, not watching the news, watching the news, protesting, being honest in your own life, not being honest in your own life, how you spend your own money….everything people do in their own lives affects what we see in Washington, DC. If a politician lies and you get upset about it, ask yourself if you ever lie to make yourself look good. Do you ever pretend to have a certain view point because it would be easier to do so? Do you ever put on extra makeup to hide a perceived flaw? Do you ever talk to people who could further your career even though you don’t like them? Do you ever do things…like have a job…that you don’t like just to get ahead? Of course you do.

Washington, DC is a summary of the United States. We put those people there, whether through inaction or action. Our cumulative energetic resonance puts them there. Until we change our own lives, our own selves, our politicians will not change. It cannot be so!

What I hear most often is that money is corrupting politics. Sure, it sounds like a great and noble statement, one that everyone would agree on, but then today I got another reminder of the fact that people make the politics. Most of the people in my Reserach Methods class believe that there is nothing wrong with a research scientist changing the presentation of results from a study when asked by a pharmaceutical comapany to do so. In other words, pharmaceutical companies manipulating data is ok with them.

The reasons they gave were even more enlightening! Here are some of them: it’s ok because pharmaceutical companies want to make money, it’s ok because pharmaceutical companies want to make the most profits possible on their product, it’s ok to only show the advantages of the product. I asked a few of my classmates if they see anything wrong with not presenting all of the information, and what if people get sick because they took something without seeing all the data – one person said that that is why we have recalls. This is very telling.

If we don’t value truthful information, we won’t get it. It’s that simple! This is the outlook of most of the people in this class…that it is OK for a pharmaceutical company to intervene in the presentation of results from a scientific study. This is letting money manipulate science. This letting big pharma and big agriculture into DC to let them tell us how sick we are, what to take, that we should eat their GMO food…etc. Because they have the scientitsts working for them, and we the people trust science. It’s easy to blame the symptom, but what we really need to do is look inside and figure out where we are not being truthful in our own lives.

So tell the truth if you want to receive it.

Value yourself if you want to be valued.

Treat yourself with respect if you want to be respected.

Show yourself the care you want from others.

You get to choose the kind of world you want to live in, and it’s based on who you are and how you express that.

If you’re still thinking that I’m picking on you, you may be in denial. We all lie, we all try to manage others’ perceptions of us, and we are all hiding facets of ourselves from the public. I know this because I’m pretty sure the Dalai Lama, the Buddha and Jesus don’t read my blog. We all unfold in a spiral, we reveal in layers our internal truths, our hidden beliefs, pain and desires. You can tell that there is more to discover if you have reactions to the outside world. If you are triggered by injustice, look inside yourself for the injustice you are creating for youself.

We can change the country, the world, the universe! But we have to start on the inside of us.

Lots of love,
